§1 Section · Who May Participate

Eligibility & Participation

General Eligibility

Participation is open to professional and semi-professional photographers worldwide who are 18 years of age or older at the time of submission.

Participants must be the original creator and sole copyright holder of every submitted image. Images created in collaboration with other photographers require written disclosure.

Employees, immediate family members, and household members of INPCA or its contracted jury members are not eligible to enter during any contest round in which that jury member participates.

Participation is void where prohibited by local law. Participants are solely responsible for determining whether they are legally permitted to enter based on their jurisdiction's regulations.

Account Requirement

A registered INPCA account is required to purchase credits and submit images. Each photographer may hold one account only.

Creating duplicate accounts to circumvent restrictions or accumulate free credits is strictly prohibited and will result in permanent disqualification of all associated accounts.

§2 Section · Disciplines & Age Ranges

Contest Categories & Age Definitions

INPCA operates six specialist categories, each judged by experts with specific knowledge of that discipline. Images must be submitted to the category that accurately reflects the age and nature of the subject.

Newborn Photography

0 – 21 DAYS OLD

Studio and lifestyle work capturing the first days of life. Includes posed, wrapped, and parent-connection images. The ideal window is the first 5–14 days. Images of infants older than 21 days who are confidently holding their own head are not accepted in this category.

Maternity Photography

FROM WEEK 28

Intimate and powerful imagery celebrating pregnancy, typically photographed from week 28 onwards. Studio, outdoor, and lifestyle sessions are all accepted. The expectant mother must be the central subject.

Sitter Photography

4 – 10 MONTHS

The developmental milestone stage when babies can sit unassisted but are not yet walking. Typically 4–10 months of age. Captures curiosity, personality, and emerging character. Supported sitting (with minimal visible support) is permitted.

Children Photography

1 – 10 YEARS

Authentic moments from toddlerhood through early childhood. Walking, exploring, playing — the full spectrum of childhood energy. The focus is on genuine emotion and storytelling, not formal portraiture.

Family Photography

ANY AGE — GROUP OF 2+

A minimum of two family members must be present as primary subjects. Captures connection, love, laughter, and quiet in-between moments. This category includes couples, parent-child, and multigenerational work.

Monthly Special

THEME-SPECIFIC

A rotating monthly theme announced at the start of each round (e.g., Black & White, Golden Hour, Documentary Style). Eligibility and age ranges are defined by the active theme for that month. Check the current round page for full theme specifications.

One Image Per Category Per Round: Each unique photograph may be submitted to only one category per contest round. The same image may not be entered in multiple categories simultaneously. Images submitted in a previous round may be re-entered in a subsequent round.
§3 Section · Technical Standards

Image Requirements & Safety Standards

Technical Requirements

  • Format: JPEG only. RAW, PNG, TIFF, HEIC and other formats are not accepted.
  • Resolution: 2,000 pixels on the longest edge. Higher resolutions are automatically optimized during upload.
  • File Size: Maximum 5 MB per image.
  • Watermarks & Overlays: No studio logos, photographer signatures, text overlays, copyright marks, frames, or borders of any kind. Identifiable markings result in disqualification.
  • AI Policy (Hybrid Mastery): AI-assisted editing (e.g., Evoto, Photoshop Generative Fill) is permitted for background enhancement, outfit manipulation, and technical retouching. Strictly Prohibited: 100% AI generation (Text-to-Image). AI must NOT be used to alter faces, change the posing, or manipulate the core composition.

Infant Safety — Zero Tolerance

"The wellbeing of the newborn or child takes absolute precedence over any artistic, technical, or aesthetic merit."

  • Unsupported head, neck, or spine.
  • Original "froggy" or "potato" poses without digital support.
  • Suspended newborns or fall hazards.
  • Newborns held by siblings or pets without verifiable support.

Note: Composite images (where safety is achieved digitally) must be disclosed in submission notes.

§5 Section · How Judging Works

The Evaluation Framework

Blind Judging Protocol

"All submissions are fully anonymised. Judge access does not include any identifying information about the submitting photographer, ensuring a purely objective evaluation of the craft."

CriterionWeightWhat is Evaluated

Originality20%Creative vision, concept uniqueness, and distinctive artistic voice.
Posing20%Safety (non-negotiable), naturalness, and intentionality of placement.

The Impact Bonus
